John Mameli is an artist on a mission, to bring his music to the world. A sound that will emphasize the innovative and tasteful style of guitar developed throughout his years of writing and performing. Born John Vincent Mameli, in Niagara Falls, New York; he first picked up a guitar at the age of twelve, and was playing professionally by the age of fifteen. While every local musician cloned their style after established artists, John recognized his own road to travel. He worked relentlessly at his craft, and although the influences of Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix and Steve Vai played a role in his development, his true inspiration was born in simplicity. It has always been about the music, the pure essence of the sound inside him.
John has performed on the road throughout North America, with various major and local bands, in venues from bars to night clubs to festivals to concert halls to stadiums. At present, John is preparing to take his new band, Mameli, on the road, in conjunction with the release of his new CD of the same name. Mameli, the CD, will be released and available in the summer of 2005, and will be supported by live performances throughout the summer and fall. John kicked off the CD release as a feature performer at the Buffalo-Niagara Guitar Festival, in Buffalo, New York over the weekend of June 17-21. John participated in the North American Rock Guitar Competition, giving a virtuoso performance before a packed house, at The Buffalo Art Center. John was named North American Rock Guitar Champion for 2005, and was awarded a beautiful, custom designed trophy from the festival, and a spectacular 1960 Gibson Les Paul Sunburst Standard Guitar, by the Gibson Guitar Company. In addition, John will be featured in an upcoming edition of Guitar Player Magazine. It was a star studded event, featuring celebrities and illuminaries of the music world. But it was John's night, with a performance that brought down the house to a standing ovation.
Music has always been a mission, or a calling, in John’s life. All the twisting roads, and varied experiences, have brought him to record his new CD, Mameli; a culmination of his life work. This labor of love allows him to introduce his musical style to the world, which he refers to as “MARS” A Melodic Approach to a Radical Style. Although John is a professionally trained musician, he believes in forgetting all the rules, and just playing from within. It is his feel for music he wishes to share, to create a joy and appreciation for the music. He invites people into his world, creating a pleasing experience for them, from the moment they enter. It is shared enjoyment, always sharing. It is John’s music, a way to express his passion for life, but always with a grounded sense of what is truly important. That includes the people who share the experience with him, the audience.
John’s unique ability to see life through the heart of an artist, allows him to capture the magic, so intrinsic to music. To borrow from a favorite book, “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, “It is only through the heart that one sees rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” For John it is the music that’s essential, and from his heart and his guitar he expresses just that. The experience of “MARS” here on earth.
